The Loudoun Foundation receives commendation from the
Governor of Mississippi for Hurricane Katrina humanitarian effort.
In September 2005 after Hurricane Katrina ravaged
many parts of the gulf coast, The Loudoun Foundation President Tracey
Parent took action to collaborate with other Loudoun area businesses
and the medical community to provide relief and support in Louisiana
and Mississippi.
With partners like Inova Loudoun Hospital and
Loudoun Medical Group, we were able to quickly provide immediate
relief with a tractor trailer filled with emergency supplies,
clothing, food and necessities. In addition, a long-term mission was
established to operate a free clinic in Bay St. Louis for the
residents and workers trying to rebuild the devastated community.
Thanks to the amazing medical staff of Loudoun
Medical Group, Inova Loudoun and Fairfax Hospitals and many others
from around the country, the free clinic was operational until June
of 2006.
While the project was outside of the scope of the
defined mission of The Loudoun Foundation, the commitment to
community was something the Loudoun Foundation and its members felt
was absolutely necessary in the face of such a tragedy, even if that
community was not our own. To us, Bay St. Louis IS the Loudoun
County of Mississippi and will always be in our hearts.
